He-162A-2 Volksjäger shoot, IWM Duxford
During a spotters trip in the UK, a day was planned at the Imperial War museum at Duxford. It has been awhile since my last visit to this museum. A decision we would not regret. To our delight the resident He-162 was undergoing a major restoration. The aircraft was in the progress of being disassembled and the paint layers were being carefully removed. Revealing the original WWII Luftwaffe markings.
He-162A-2 flew in Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1), Staffel 2 as Rote 6 with serial 120235.
Later the aircraft was repainted as Gelbe 6. As always we somehow managed to get close to the aircraft and were able to ask a lot of questions to the worker in charge of the restoration. Yep my museum charms are still working. The sky was the limit. Bits and pieces were hauled out of the workshop, to be able to take some pictures. Definitely will try to visit the museum again in the near future to follow up on the progress made.
